Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11(24H2) feature updates will be blocked through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) after installing the April 2025 security updates.
Affected users will see a Windows Update Service (wuauserv) Error with code [0x80240069] when updating systems running Windows 11 (22H2) or Windows 11 (23H2).
The company (Microsoft) confirmed the new issue after numerous users reported Windows 11 (24H2) upgrade issues on online platforms including Reddit and its own community website.
Microsoft said in a Windows release health update - "Devices that have the Windows monthly security update installed in April, which was released on or after April 8, 2025 (starting with KB5055528) may not be able to update to Windows 11 (24H2) via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)."
This issue causes Windows 11 (24H2) downloads to not start or finish. Microsoft update logs may also show Error code 0x80240069 and the log may contain the message 'Service wuauserv has unexpectedly stopped'.
Redmond also said that WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) is typically only used in business and enterprise environments, so home users should not experience this issue.
In September 2024, the company revealed that WSUS was being discontinued, although they noted that they still plan to maintain all existing capabilities and release updates through the channel.
