Samsung is stepping up its security game with the upcoming release of One UI 8, the latest version of its custom Android interface, set to debut on the next-generation Galaxy smartphones. This update introduces powerful privacy tools, enhanced multi-device protection, and prepares Galaxy devices for the quantum computing era.
Introducing KEEP: Smarter Protection for AI and Personal Data
As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply integrated into smartphones, protecting user data has never been more important. Samsung's answer is Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) — a system-level security architecture that safeguards AI-powered features and personal data.
Unlike Secure Folder, which isolates data in a separate storage space, KEEP creates encrypted, isolated environments for each individual app. This prevents unauthorized access to sensitive information by other apps or processes on the device.
KEEP will protect data used by Samsung’s growing suite of AI features, including:
- Personal Data Engine (PDE)
- Now Brief (personalized updates)
- Smart Suggestions
- Moments (AI-powered photo memories)
- Smart Gallery Search (search your photos using natural language)
Knox Matrix Gets Smarter and More Proactive
Samsung is also enhancing Knox Matrix, its cross-device security platform that helps protect your entire Galaxy ecosystem.
New features coming in One UI 8 include:
- Automated Account Logout: If Knox Matrix detects tampering or identity spoofing, it will automatically log the attacker out of your Samsung Account, cutting off access to cloud services and linked devices.
- Unified Security Alerts: Any suspicious activity triggers alerts across all your Galaxy devices, helping users respond faster.
- Update Reminders: Knox Matrix will now notify users when critical security updates haven’t been installed, encouraging proactive device protection.
Quantum-Resistant Secure WiFi
Samsung’s Secure WiFi feature is also getting a major upgrade with the addition of quantum-resistant cryptography. Utilizing the NIST-approved ML-KEM encryption scheme, Samsung is protecting WiFi key exchanges from future quantum threats that could break today’s encryption standards.
These updates defend against advanced cyberattack scenarios, like “harvest now, decrypt later”, where attackers collect encrypted data now to decrypt it when quantum computing advances.
Other Secure WiFi improvements include:
- Enhanced security when connecting to public hotspots.
- Multi-point routing and encrypted data packets for better privacy.
- Expanded security logging and monitoring.
Coming Soon to Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and More
One UI 8 is expected to launch alongside Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 devices. Older Galaxy models will also receive the update over time.
Samsung encourages users to upgrade to the latest release and review their privacy and security settings to take full advantage of these new protections.
